...I've learned since the ice storm (or that I already knew but became more relevant)...
1. I know you are never too old or too young to walk around beating your chest like Tarzan.
2. Tickle and wrestling sessions never get old.
3. If we had lost power and eaten all of our food I think Pailsee would have been content eating crayons.
4. If I put my children in three separate rooms they will still find a reason to fight.
5. I have a husband who errs on the side of safety and caution in every situation.
I am most certain this is a trait he picked up from his father. I'm not complaining, this is one of the many things I love about him. He is always making sure his family is taken care of.
6. Still convinced that mail carriers are still under appreciated.
I may be a little biased on this subject because my grandpa and mom were/are mail carriers. When weather like snow and ice comes they are not able to call in, they have to make an
honest attempt to get to their office. When we receive any snow the plows push and scatter
the snow all around their place of work, your mailbox. When ice comes they must beat your mailbox with a rubber mallet so you can receive your snail, junk mail. The last two days I talked to my mom each day after she was done. Just for reference this is how her days went...beating 500+ mailboxes with a rubber mallet to get them open, pulling brush from the roads to clear the roads so she could drive...falling numerous times on her butt to get packages to her customer's door....she did this Tuesday and Wednesday. Surpisingly, she was in such a good mood and had a great attitude about it. She didn't complain once.
7. Ice on the driveway messes with my OCD-ness.
When the snow comes I like to have a nice cleaned off (or as close as possible) driveway so that snow is not tracked in to my house. Not being able to get the ice cleaned off my driveway really drives me crazy. FYI...a snow shovel will do nothing. You need a pickax or spade shovel to make a dent (no pun intended) on this ice.
8. Our God shows His hand of protection in ALL things, even an ice storm.
9. It is in Chaney's DNA to act like a mom to her brother and sister. It is in Tucker's DNA to pull, grab, throw, kick, hit something or someone every 15 minutes. As a result, it is Paislee's natural reaction to scream when any of the above two statements occur.
10. I am finding that spending 3 days iced in with my 3 wonderful children all under the fantastic age of 4 is becoming quite an effective birth control method.
I had a friend on Facebook make a reference to the Blizzard of '78 and all the babies that resulted. She was saying that in October/Novemeber you can bet on a lot of Ice Storm '11 babies. I'll refrain from any other statements or comments....
