5K

This morning was race day.  Nicole and I have been training since August so we were kind of interested to see how things would go today.  Nicole has run some 5K's before (pre-babies) and even the mini.  I, on the other hand, have not done any.  By all accounts I am a rookie.  In fact, I have never been a runner or even like running.  I think my tune is changing a little.  We did the "Couch to 5K" program (you can google this or even download the app) and it made it easy.  When I work out I want to sweat and feel like I am accomplishing something and I feel like running does that for me.  Plus, the benefits or running are a healthier body and toned legs.

Racetime was 8:30 and we arrived at 8 and did our best to stay warm.  It was a balmy 37*.  Once we started running our bodies warmed up and we felt better.   Getting in a race-type environment I was afraid I would not stick with my normal pace so I tried hard to start slow and take it easy.  I use the Nike app (it has a GPS) and once I heard my stats after my first mile I knew I was ok and I started my normal progression.  I ended up finishing right at 31'30".  I don't have my exact time but I know the clock was reading something like this as I passed under it.  I was pretty happy with this.  I was more impressed in my split times.  My first mile was my slowest, then a bit quicker in my second mile and my third mile was my fastest.

Race #2 is Thanksgiving Day and is a bit shorter.  I'm starting to dig this running stuff.  We'll see if my tune changes when the weather starts getting colder.

Lauren, I am copying your idea...

This is me, Anna and Nicole.  Anna (and Amy) started the Couch to 5K program as well.  Amy had to take an early retirement due to a knee injury.

Me and Anna after the race and post-race festivities.  At this point we were totally numb.
